Portland Mercado and Hispanicpros collaborate to bring the very first Taste of Latin America to Portland to kick off Hispanic Heritage Month
(Portland, OR) – The nonprofit, government and business community has joined forces to open the Portland Mercado, a place to eat, shop and experience Latino culture all while supporting small business development. The momentum for the project continues as Portland Mercado and community partner Hispanicpros co-host Portland’s first Taste of Latin America | El Sabor de Latinoamerica festival to further promote economic opportunity, culture, art and the delicious and diverse flavors of Latin American regions at the event on September 12th, 2015.
The celebrates the opening week of Hispanic Heritage Month (September 15-October 15) and Latin American Independence Holiday’s, notably Mexico on September 16th. Taste of Latin America is a one day event focused on the diversity of Latino culture and cuisines available in our region. Businesses representing foods from Uruguay, Colombia, Cuba, Brazil, Peru, Venezuela, Mexico, El Salvador, Caribbean Islands, Argentina and Guatemala have been confirmed. Taste of Latin America is supported and funded by Comcast, Zipcar, Warner Pacific, Metro, AAA, Banner Bank, SE Uplift (kids activities & crafts), Andina Restaurant and others.

About Portland Mercado
The first Latino public market in Portland opened in April, 2015 to bring economic opportunity and a sense of Latin American cultural pride and diversity to the city. The project, a concept built on Latino cultural heritage, supports small businesses, job creation and the arts. The project is developed by Hacienda Community Development Corporation, a non-profit, whose mission is to build thriving communities by providing affordable housing, homeownership support, educational opportunities and economic advancement.
Hispanicpros is unique in the Portland Metropolitan area. With approximately 2000 members from diverse professional backgrounds, Hispanicpros is one of the largest and most engaged networks in the area. Established in 2008, Hispanicpros has been designed to attract the professional and business segment of the Hispanic community. Hispanicpros provides monthly networking events, workshops, and trainings to bring together members from diverse professional backgrounds and to foster long lasting professional relationships, economic development and share knowledge that will strengthen the Hispanic community.
