Tips from Entreprenuer.com

I came across this that I felt is worth sharing.

We've all heard about the importance of a strong first impression...you only get a precious few seconds to establish your credibility! Robert Jones at Entrepreneur.com has some great advice for creating a confident, comfortable presence from the moment you shake hands. Here are three quick, take-away tips that you can use:

  • Establish eye contact! Jones advises maintaining eye contact 85% of the time during their conversations. You'll demonstrate your sincerity and trustworthiness, and, Jones points out, show that you're interested in what your prospect has to say.
  • Take control of your voice! "It can create a negative impression very easily if you're not in control of the way you speak," Jones cites voice specialist Sandra McKnight. And it's not just volume that's important to keep in mind! Speedy talking can create a sense of anxiety or nervousness. So take a deep breath and speak slowly, clearly and confidently.
  • It's all about your prospect! This is a big one! Jones writes that being self-conscious is a major trap that can destroy first impressions. To avoid self-consciousness, review and rehearse what you're going to say before you approach your prospect...then you can just focus on them!

So remember these easy tips when you speak with prospects and referrals.
